Judith Byrne MA Med FRSA
Judith is the Managing Director and co-founder of Media Minds. A former Deputy Chief Executive of the Equal Opportunities Commission, she was the Commission’s main spokesperson on national radio and television and in the national press. Judith is an experienced lecturer and management trainer, with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education with Distinction from the University of Oxford.  Member, Confederation of British Industry Southern Regional Council (1994-1997) representing the Open University; Independent Review Panel Chairman, NHS Oxford and Anglia (1996-1998); Chairman of Oxfordshire Community Health NHS Trust (1999). Judith is the author of How to Talk to the Media and several other books and publications.


Ciar Byrne
Ciar has broad experience of reporting and editing on national newspapers, magazines and online. Until recently, she worked at The Independent, where she spent five years as Arts and Media Correspondent and Assistant News Editor. Previous posts include Press and Publishing Correspondent for MediaGuardian.co.uk, part of The Guardian website, and staff journalist at Private Eye magazine. Ciar is now a freelance journalist writing for publications including The Guardian, the Daily Telegraph, Press Gazette and The Lady. Ciar has recently joined Media Minds as Director.


Sheena McDonald
Sheena has worked in radio and television news and current affairs for over 20 years. She specialises in international affairs, politics, arts and religion and also makes documentaries and debate programmes.


Liz Barclay
With 20 years presenting and production experience on both radio and television, Liz is a well-known BBC Radio 4 voice – she presented You and Yours for 10 years, and regularly presents the station’s Pick of the Week and documentaries. She writes on personal finance and small business for national newspapers and magazines and is the author of several business books. Liz frequently chairs conferences, turning them into lively events, including recently the Citizens Advice annual conference, the International Luxury Travel Market in Cannes, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, the Customer Contact Association and a Q&A session with the Prime Minister.

Henry Kelly
Henry began his career in journalism and broadcasting on The Irish Times in Dublin and in Belfast as the paper’s Northern Editor, before joining BBC Radio Four, where he worked for The World Tonight and Profile. He then moved into light entertainment, presenting LWT’s Saturday evening show Game For A Laugh, followed by the BBC’s Going For Gold. Henry was the main morning presenter of Classic FM for 11 years, winning several broadcasting awards. These days he can be heard on BBC Radio Berkshire and Sky Television at weekends. He writes for The Irish Times, the Daily Mail and the Daily Telegraph and hosts conferences and corporate presentations.

Patrick Bartlett
In a long career as a BBC news correspondent, Patrick has covered Business, Politics and European Affairs, working for almost every BBC Television and Radio news programme. He has interviewed business leaders and politicians in both the UK and Europe and his assignments have ranged from boardroom battles and strikes to EU summits and international crime. As a BBC correspondent in Frankfurt and then Brussels, he covered the launch of the Euro, the economic fall-out from 9/11 and many breaking news stories across the Continent. Patrick regularly reports for BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours and has presented Radio 4’s Yesterday in Parliament and Europe Today for the BBC World Service.

Diana Madill
A familiar BBC Radio 4 voice who has presented Woman’s Hour, You and Yours and the interview series A Hard Act, plus numerous phone-ins and debates. Diana was also morning presenter on Radio 5 Live for three years. TV presenting includes BBC2’s Westminster Live, Despatch Box and the Midnight Hour, as well as party conferences, budgets and elections. She is one of our Lead Tutors, and joined Media Minds in 2003.

Sue Beardsmore
Sue worked for BBC Television for over 20 years as a reporter and broadcaster. As the senior presenter of a successful daily regional news magazine, she has extensive experience of live broadcasting. She has also presented live shows in formats from serious discussion to entertainment, including a weekly live phone-in debate. She was one of the first journalists in the BBC to train as a self-shoot/ edit reporter. Sue now specialises as a trainer and consultant in voice, presentation and media skills, mainly for broadcast organisations and management teams.

Peter Russell
Peter has worked in television and radio news for more than 20 years. He reported from the heart of UK politics for 15 years as a Westminster political correspondent and has interviewed six prime ministers and covered four general elections. Peter has worked as a national and international reporter for ITN, IRN, the BBC, Classic FM and British Forces Broadcasting. He has been a UK correspondent for radio stations in Australia and South Africa. Peter’s experience covers reporting, production, presentation and editing. He also works as an editor for American health news and information website WebMD and writes for the WebMD-Boots website.


Robin Clifford OBE, FCMI, MCIPR, Crisis Management Consultant
Robin specialises in strategic reputational risk planning and international incident and issues preparedness and management. With in-house and agency experience, he has managed incidents and issues for clients from a range of disparate industries including international oil trading, health, biotech and biodefence, and the defence and private security sectors. During his previous military career, he was responsible for high profile international communications planning and media handling in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq.
 

Annwen Campbell-Smith
A native of Betws-y-Coed, Annwen began her media career as a reporter for the North Wales Weekly News and Daily Post before joining BFBS Radio (British Forces Broadcasting Service) in 2001. Since then, she has risen to become a presenter/ producer and enjoyed many overseas detachments to Cyprus, Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands, Bosnia and Canada. Her work in radio has led to work in BFBS Television, with highlights including TV reporting for the BBC1 Remembrance programme and co-presenting the BFBS Big Salute charity telethon. Annwen currently presents and produces programmes for BFBS Radio’s global network, which can also be heard on Sky Digital 0211 and Freesat 786.


Rick Thompson
Rick was the BBC’s award-winning Foreign Editor in charge of coverage of the Falklands War and is an experienced strategic planner and policy-maker for the Corporation. He was Editor of the Nine O’Clock News and Head of News and Local programmes at BBC Midlands. Rick is now a consultant in broadcasting development in Europe, an adviser to the European Commission and Visiting Professor in Broadcast Journalism at Birmingham City University.  He is an adviser to Media Minds, and occasional tutor. He has been with the company from its inception in 1998.


John Getgood
John’s roles in BBC Television have included Executive Producer of That’s Life, Deputy Editor of Watchdog and he was part of the founding team for Kilroy. On BBC Radio 4, he was Editor of You and Yours. John was also the BBC’s Executive Producer for independent productions including Ground Force, Changing Rooms, Celebrity Ready Steady Cook and produced Children in Need from 1995 to 2000. During that time, the appeal raised more than £100m and John is a consultant to foreign broadcasters on similar appeals. John is one of our Lead Tutors and has been with Media Minds since 1999.

Karen Lawrence, Administrator
Our back office is one of the most important features of Media Minds. Karen has worked in administration and sales roles throughout her working life; her last role was as Administrator and Secretary to the MD of a large multi-national company. We know that our clients appreciate the professional care she provides for Media Minds.
